Kootenay-wide Library Federation Read Local Book Club

Last night, a group of us met on Zoom to discuss The Stone Frigate and explore the underlying issues that linger in our culture related to sexism and how each of us can contribute to making the necessary changes by being responsible, caring citizens of the world. Thank you to everyone who showed up and contributed to the conversation. I wrote my book in hopes of meeting people like you. My heart is full. xo

Tuesday, January 18th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm

via Zoom

The Kootenay Library Federations and the Trail and District Public Library present an evening with Kate Armstrong discussing her book: The Stone Frigate.

Kate Armstrong was an ordinary young woman eager to leave an abusive childhood behind her when she became the first female cadet admitted to the Royal Military College of Canada. As she struggled for survival in the ultimate boys club, she called on her fierce and humourous spirit to push back against the whims of a domineering and patriarchal organization. Later in life, feeling unfulfilled in her post-military career, she realized that finding her true path forward meant she had to go back to the beginning and reclaim the truth of what she had experienced all those years ago. This memoir captures the terror and excitement of a young woman forging ahead through sheer force of will.

The first 45 minutes of the discussion will be a book club discussion and then Kate will be invited to join the conversation so that participants can ask questions.

Email kootenaylibrariesprogramming@gmail.com with any questions or to request a loan copy of the book.
